This summer, Arcosanti founder Paolo Soleri turns 90 and Arcosanti will fill with alumni and friends of the project wishing Paolo a happy birthday and celebrating his remarkable life accomplishments. Join us as we celebrate Soleri's work, feature activities & entertainment, unite Arcosanti & Cosanti alumni, showcase Arcosanti's projects, incorporate fundraising efforts, & offer volunteer opportunities. Paolo Soleri 90th Birthday Celebration at Arcosanti
This will be a time for reunion and reminiscence and to experience Arcosanti’s unique capacity to foster the Urban Effect. We will look at where Arcosanti is today, how far the project has come and how far it still has to go. For those who have been away a while, it will be a reminder that Arcosanti is so much more than an idea – it is a living, breathing, inhabited, multi-brained organism, building itself at a pace directly reflective of the collective efforts and energy it is receiving at any given time. Paolo Soleri reminds us that Arcosanti should be always a living document of this process of becoming and should never be relegated to the status of a monument to a single experiment undertaken in the past.
Paolo Soleri has dedicated his life and his creative and personal resources to the construction of the Arcosanti project. Over Paolo’s birthday weekend we will celebrate all that has been accomplished and the decades of lived experience Arcosanti represents, but we will also rededicate ourselves and what resources we can to what is yet to be done – a life-long project we all take on the responsibility to sustain and grow together.

A Time for Change
Can you feel the world shifting? “Green” has become pop culture and “sustainable” is a buzzword. Conversations about frugality and living leaner are happening in the most unusual places.
We know the economy is in turmoil and most of us feel the struggle to make ends meet or have seen our investments wither. But underneath the babble about hardships is a different and surprisingly optimistic voice rising. Tight budgets have forced a deeper understanding that we really can do more with less. Unemployment has sparked development of creative businesses. People in all strata are beginning to deeply re-think what it means to have quality of life.
This is an exciting time for Arcosanti and all its supporters in that we are uniquely positioned to play a role in this cultural shift. Without fanfare, Arcosanti has embodied the idea of living leaner since its inception. Long before popular, the project has explored creating environments that are rich in meaning and low on impact. Suddenly, “alternative” ideas are not so alternative and Soleri’s messages and the benefits of an environment like Arcosanti appeal to a much broader audience.
Arcosanti is more relevant than ever before. How do we share our learnings and influence societal change in the most meaningful way? How do we leverage this momentum for Arcosanti’s growth? We don’t have all the answers, but these are the questions on our mind as we strive to participate in this great rewrite of our cultural landscape.
