Arcosanti, AZ. On October 11, 2003, Arcosanti’s outdoor amphitheater will host Crossing 32nd Street, A Unique Musical Experience! This small ensemble is dedicated to the performance of representative chamber music from the 20th and 21st centuries for audiences who are not primarily exposed to contemporary music. Crossing 32nd Street’s core instrumentation, comprised of former new music specialists from Arizona State University, consists of flute, clarinet, saxophone, voice, violin, cello, piano, percussion and electronics. The performance will begin at 3:00 pm, following a special lunch served in the Arcosanti café. A complimentary Arcosanti site tour will provide new guests the opportunity to see Paolo Soleri’s exceptional urban architectural experiment, which is located in a stunning high desert environment.

Now in its third year as ensemble-in-residence at Paradise Valley Community College, the ensemble boasts a repertoire that includes music by Bela Bartok, Elliot Carter, Lukas Foss, Lou Harrison, Charles Ives, Arvo Part, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Edgar Varese, and William Walton. The ensemble regularly performs concerts in alternative spaces in Downtown Phoenix and on the campuses of Glendale Community College & Paradise Valley Community College. This concert will feature the performance of music composed by Iannis Xenakis, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Olivier Messaien, Charles Koechlin and Henry Cowell. In addition, this performance will include a work for piano, percussion and computer-controlled electronics by ASU composition faculty member Glenn Hackbarth.
