Every year since 1993, composers and professional musicians have traveled from all over the United States and even abroad to take part in a week-long musical seminar. This year’s seminar will culminate with a special performance in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at Arcosanti. The 2003 Composers Seminar at Arcosanti provides an opportunity for gifted composers to study and work with professional musicians. Since 1995 the California EAR Unit, one of Los Angeles' premiere contemporary music ensembles, has served as ensemble-in-residence for the seminar. On August 16 at 5:30 pm, they will grace Arcosanti with an exhilarating performance filled with music composed by the talented artists participating in the seminar.

Guests new to Arcosanti are invited for a complimentary site tour and hors d’oeuvres to start the evening, and the musical performance will be followed by a special dinner served in the Arcosanti cafe.

The California EAR Unit is a group of internationally recognized musicians founded in 1981. Since then, they have been dedicated to the performance, promotion and creation of some of the most exciting music of our time. Their performances mesmerize audiences, utilizing state of the art technology, found objects and traditional instruments. The Unit has brought an unparalleled versatility and virtuosity to its performances, garnering recognition from the American Music Center’s Letter of Distinction to the LA Weekly’s Best Classical Ensemble 1999 Award. The performance at Arcosanti will be a truly unique experience, allowing guests the opportunity to hear brand new works from a brilliant group of composers!
