In addition to our workshop programs, many of our departments offer 3-month internships. The Arcosanti internship offers a unique educational experience by allowing the intern to focus in a specific department for a longer amount of time and contribute to the development of the prototype Arcology.
The first step of the internship program is to complete a regularly scheduled Five-week workshop.
This is included in the 3-month period. Completion of the workshop not only introduces one to the experience of "hands on" learning, but also introduces one to the concepts and theories of the Arcosanti project. During the Five-week workshop period, the intern may be asked to work in areas outside of the internship department in order to gain a broader understanding of the project. The internship extends 8 weeks beyond the regular workshop, with intensive instruction in the chosen department. The workshop is included in the internship fee.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
Due to the fact that the living experience is an integral part of the learning process, all interns must live on site for the length of their internship. For the first five weeks of the internship, interns are housed in dormitory-style accommodations. The dorms are partially completed rooms that will eventually be finished into apartments. The facilities are shared with other workshop participants (various rooms can accommodate 2 to 8 people), and there are places to lock up valuables. There is minimal heating and no air-conditioning!
After the Five-week workshop, interns must move into our camp area, or into an apartment on site through our housing pool process. The apartments on site are generally shared with other residents, and space is limited.
INTERNSHIP FEE:
The cost of the internship is $1350. This covers the Five-week workshop costs. Interns will be responsible for their share of subsidized food costs only for the remaining 8 weeks of the internship.
REGISTRATION:
To apply for an internship, first contact the workshop coordinator for the availability of the position in the your area of interest. The next step is to contact the head of department for any questions you have. Then send in an internship application and schedule a phone interview. Your application should include:
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae
- A portfolio or record of works (if applicable)
- Three letters of recommendation from former employers, teachers or co-workers
- A letter of interest that addresses why you wish to spend time as part of the Arcosanti project and how an internship fits in with your long term educational and professional goals
