Since 1970 we have
been testing which varieties of vegetables grow best in our
greenhouse climate by planting just about every kind of vegetable
and herb available, including varieties from foreign contries
and rare Native American seed. This has provided us with an
excellent selection from which to choose.
Avoiding
a monoculture and planting with species and spatial diversity
has resulted in very few pest problems. Also the large diurnal
temperature swing provides a built in pest control. After
7 years with no major problems we feel that an organic-biological
system can be maintained in the proposed full scale greenhouse.
