Donations In-Kind

We would like to express our appreciation to the many organizations and individuals who have enabled us to complete various projects at Arcosanti. Their donations and grants have helped build Arcosanti.

Recent Donors and Grants

Salt River Materials Group (SRMG) made a generous donation of 520 bags of Portland cementin 2008, which they produce at their facility in Clarkdale, Arizona. This donation will allow for the building of the ADA access pathway from the visitors parking lot to the Crafts III building, and other onsite construction projects. SRMG is a Native American-owned company based in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community's Chaparral Business Park near Scottsdale, AZ. SRMG is a leading supplier of cement and related building materials in the southwest US, and has taken a leadership role in the region promoting sustainable products and practices. They recently retrofit their Clarkdale cement plant to reduce energy consumption and emissions.

Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT),through the Rural Tourism Development Grant Program, selected Arcosanti as a beneficiary for a $50,000 grant. The funds were used for improvements to the Visitor Parking area and the installation of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pathway between the parking area and the Crafts III building. The funds also paid for a night lighting system for both areas, powered by a Solar PV system that incorporated solar modules donated by ASU-PTL (see below), making it possible for visitors to safely access the site at night. Special thanks are extended to Karen McClurg and Michael Leyva, of AOT.

Wyatt Development and the Wirsbo/Uponor Company donated 6,000 linear feet of hydronic tubing to complete the installation of the radiant floor heating system in the East Crescent Phase 5 building. Ted Wyatt provided the system design and installed the major components. The resources and efforts of these benefactors assisted Arcosanti in the completion of this project.

Bonded Logic, an environmentally conscious insulation company, provided discounted pricing on insulation used in the construction of Arcosanti. The company has been making news with their innovative manufacturing process that recycles excess fabric used in the manufacture of denim blue jeans. In 2005, their UltraTouch Cotton Insulation was installed in several East Crescent Phase 5 apartments. Special thanks to Sean Desmond and the Bonded Logic team.

Arizona State University’s Photovoltaic Testing Laboratory (ASU–PTL) provides testing and certification services for manufacturers of solar PV modules. They often donate working PV modules to non-profit organizations as a part of an educational outreach program. (Recently ASU joined with TÜV Rheinland Group to create an expanded testing laboratory.)
In 2007 Arcosanti received two donations from ASU-PTL: eight 160-Watt modules for a night lighting system near the Soleri Office and Design building, and an additional eight 180-Watt modules for the Solar PV system that powers night lighting for the visitors parking and access pathway funded by a grant from the Arizona Office of Tourism (see above). Special thanks to Bill Shisler of ASU-PTL.
