... in the hallway of Unit 8, first floor infront of the public bathrooms. During power outages, the solar plant will still supply lighting for hallways and walkways, and to Unit 8 [including the new public restrooms], Unit 9 and Unit 10 of the East Crescent Complex.

There are some exceptions to the electric lines connected to the public grid. A small solar plant in Unit 8, see installation of the supporting solar panel reported on 6/16/03, supplies power to Units 8, 9 and 10, as well as to the lighting of hallways and walkways all through the East Crescent. More of this on 3/2.

The electricity was turned off site wide to connect the outside power line to a switch box in the heat duct tunnel and from there to the utility room.

Construction at Arcosanti currently focusses on installing utilities for the East Crescent complex. This phase of the Arcosanti project includes a new classroom, meeting room and a number of residential units. The construction crew consists of February 6. workshop participants, Arcosanti crew leaders and volunteers.

For a Valentine's Concert on Saturday Feb.12, the Arcosanti Community presented
D-Squared. Don Charles on guitar and Deb Gessner on harp.

Residents and volunteers helped to prepare for the concert. Randall Schultz painted the backdrop for the stage. Chef Erika cooked for over 100 people. The dinner menu was Salmon, Orzo with Artichoke Hearts, sun-dried Tomatoes and Capers, Vegetables, Baby green Salad. A Dessert Bar with Valentine's Day Cookies and small Cakes was presented at Intermission .

The cafe space is enhanced by this beautiful assembly. Some of the very large Paolo Soleri Special Assemblies can be found in public locations such as Phoenix Skyharbor Airport, the main Phoenix Public Library, the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater at Glendale College and of course at Cosanti.

The first week of each workshop, the seminar week, is packed with lectures, a slideshow, meetings with Paolo Soleri and visits to the various departments. Staff member Roger Tomalty starts the week with an introduction to the project in the Visitors Center Gallery.

Residents are gathered in camp to prepare cubes and the surroundings for the first workshop this year.

As workshop participants arrive, they are greeted in camp, their home for the next 5 weeks. Camp Coordinator Ali Rossberg meets each participant and helps them become acquainted with the camp area.

The first workshop of 2005 starts this Sunday, February 6. Construction this year will start with projects on the East Crescent Complex.
