Founded in 1965, The Cosanti Foundation (TCF), an Arizona-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, owns and operates two world-famous, open-to-the-public locations, Cosanti in Paradise Valley and Arcosanti near Mayer, as well as a wholly owned subsidiary, Cosanti Originals, which also operates at both locations. The Cosanti Foundation’s current mission is “to inspire a reimagined urbanism that builds resilient and equitable communities sustainably integrated with the natural world.”

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The artisans of the Cosanti Originals foundry are responsible for creating and producing the iconic Cosanti Originals Windbells and associated bronze products and accessories. This is achieved by casting molten bronze into sand molds crafted by artisans daily. The resulting bronze pieces are refined, assembled, and receive a surface treatment to yield the finished product. Each step of production is accomplished by collaboration with one or more of the artisans in the foundry.

This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position with benefits (which includes generous vacation, sick pay, and medical insurance – as noted in the most current Cosanti Foundation Employee Handbook, which is enclosed herewith for reference and may be changed from time to time).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
● Perform a combination of tasks, including melting metals, pouring melted metals into molds, removing castings from molds, packing sand molds, moving sand, castings, and other foundry materials.
● Follow detailed verbal/written assembly instructions, processes, and procedures.
● Prepare and assemble materials and parts.
● Move, process, and organize materials and manufactured products.
● Operate hand power tools, presses, drills, grinders, and any other required machinery efficiently and safely.
● Report any quality, processes, equipment, and material problems to Supervisor.
● Maintain a clean and organized work area.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Must be dependable, honest, and have a positive attitude with customers.
● Must be able to work amicably amongst and often in coordination with a diverse group of fellow artisans and staff.
● Good communicator and ability to problem solve.
● Excellent follow-through, time management, and attention to detail.
● Must be able to follow any/all safety directives diligently.
● Knowledge and experience of production processes are beneficial but not required.
● Previous artistic experience is valuable but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
● Must be able to follow any/all safety directives diligently.
● Must be physically able to lift heavy loads (50+ lbs.) and work in an outdoor mfg. environment.
● Due to the unique nature of CO and TCF built environment, the ability to ascend/descend stairs and move safely over uneven terrain. However, this position is eligible for remote work, in which case this requirement shall be deemed waived.
● Ability to sit or stand in a stationary position (i.e., at a desk, in an office environment) for extended periods.
● Ability to communicate aurally, in writing, over the phone, and through virtual telecommunications (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet, etc.).
